McMahon was born in Australia; here he completed his high school. He had enrolled himself for law in the University of Sydney, but soon left it to become a model, in which he was successful too. From where he took up his career in acting and became famous.
He started his acting career with the Australian soap “Home and Away”. He got his first American series in 1993, a soap opera “Another World”. He has also worked in American movies like “Magneta”, “Chasing Sleep” and “Another day”. Most recently he has appeared in the famous series Nip/Tuck, where he plays the main lead.
McMahon has been married and divorced twice. First to Australian singer and actress Dannii Minogue, for about a year and later he married American actress Brooke Burns, whom he divorced in 2001. He has a daughter with her too. On his free time he enjoys surfing, biking, and cooking. He also has a collection of classic books and is a huge fan of basketball, baseball and football.
